Where Do the Tide Go From Here?

Andrae Hawes | November 24, 2024

The Alabama Crimson Tide suffered a crushing 24-3 defeat against the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday night, dealing a serious blow to their playoff aspirations. The loss exposed several weaknesses in Alabama’s offense and left fans questioning whether the team can recover in time to stay in the playoff conversation. For a program known for dominance under Nick Saban, this game marked a rare misstep in execution and intensity.

Offensively, they struggled to find any rhythm. QB Jalen Milroe was inconsistent, and the Sooners’ defense capitalized, shutting down both the run and pass game. Despite several opportunities, Bama could only muster a field goal, their lowest point total in years. The offensive line, often a strength, struggled to protect Milroe or create lanes for the run game, raising concerns about their ability to handle elite defenses in the SEC.

Defensively, Alabama showed flashes of brilliance but failed to contain Oklahoma's explosive plays. Missed assignments and penalties added to their struggles, allowing the Sooners to control the pace of the game. While Alabama’s defense has carried the team at times this season, Saturday’s performance highlighted gaps that need to be addressed quickly if they hope to make a late-season push.

Georgia have already secured a spot in the SEC Championship Game. The Tide host in-state rival Auburn next week as the country watches this close playoff race.

For Alabama fans, this defeat is a wake-up call. While they are far from out of contention, their path to the playoff has never looked steeper. They must regroup quickly and prove they can rise to the occasion when it matters most. Whether they can salvage their season remains to be seen, but the pressure is undoubtedly mounting.
